ECOLOGICAL PRACTICES IN INCUBATOR CONSTRUCTION
We continue to bring new updates from the Katalyst site, this time to inform you about the reinforcement of the building, in fact, about how we strengthened the walls of the old building! We managed to reinforce the walls, because renovating the building is more eco-responsible than demolishing it and building something new. All this action is needed because construction waste accounts for about half of global solid waste, according to the World Bank. According to a 2012 report, globally, it states that cities generate 1.3 billion tons of solid waste each year. This volume is expected to increase to 2.2 billion tonnes each year by 2025. Building materials account for half of the solid waste generated each year worldwide. The steps in the management of construction waste are: storage and sorting, collection and transport, recycling and reuse and disposal, all these ecological practices we try to apply here, in the construction of the Katalyst incubator.
The works inside the cellar are also ongoing, the platform is being prepared for the new enhancements with ventilation and temperature control equipment. This space will be responsible for storing products and deserves special attention in its design.
The common kitchen space has also been updated, the floor has been poured. In addition, the ceiling has been raised, which will serve as a floor for the Katalyst cafe, inside which visitors will be able to admire the food preparation processes and the view of the village. We emphasize the convenience and usefulness of the common kitchen space, for this reason, every millimeter of the surface is important to plan.
Water is an indispensable element in any kitchen, and in order to have access to the municipal water source, a 200-meter trench was dug! A colossal effort for Katalyst workers.
The construction, arrangement and finishing techniques of the agri-food incubator follow the principles of recycling and reuse, with a lot of responsibility towards the environment. We will continue to take care of the space, where innovative products and quality services will be developed.
